dree ziegler
a digital nomad navigating a global pandemic
For more than 15 years, Dree Ziegler has built her career as a digital marketer and eCommerce strategist, working with retailers, Fortune 500 companies and nonprofits.
But in October 2019, Dree shook off her corporate-ish life to become a digital nomad. Equipped with her trusty Macbook, a hearty Midwestern work ethic, and a few exceptional clients for her new digital agency, Drizzle Digital, she grabbed a flight to Europe where she met up with 30 other remote workers.
Their plan was to spend every month in a new international city, living and working among the locals, meeting new people and experiencing life in unpredictable ways. They planned stops in Croatia, Portugal, Spain, South Africa, Vietnam, Thailand, Japan, Malaysia, Chile, Peru, Colombia, and Mexico.
But they couldn’t have predicted a pandemic that would bring global travel to a halt. In March 2020, right in the middle of a lovely week of diving on a tiny island in the Gulf of Thailand, the world shut down due to COVID-19.
Since March 2020, Dree has lived with another nomad on Koh Tao, Thailand — an 8-square-mile, jungle-covered rock east of Chumphon. She’s spent her time building Drizzle Digital, learning to dive, hiking to the top of the same four vistas, and taking the occasional trapeze class.
Now the only question is: What comes next?
